BREMERTON AIRPORT RACETRACK
-------------------------------------------------------------
1956’s big event was the August 12 SCCA Nationals and Seafair Trophy race at Bremerton Airport. Along with the rest of that year, it is covered extensively in Long Straights and Hairpins Turns, Martin Rudow’s book on the of PNW racing in the 1950s. All photos here are from that event.

Mercedes Gullwing

Paul O'Shea in the #33 Mercedes gullwing and Dick Thompson (Corvette) waged a year-long battle across the country for supremacy in big bore production SCCA National Championship races. Here at Bremerton Thompson won with O'Shea 2nd.

Kurtis Caddy

Definitely not a car for the timid, Lou Brero’s brutal Kurtis-Cadillac awaits its turn on the race track.

Tom Fox Jag Special

Tom Fox’s Jaguar Special was one of fabricator Andy Thompson’s creations. While the car looks somewhat lithe here, it was reportedly an ungainly beast to drive.
